Whirl-Y-Gig, October 6th 2007

Here's some photos from the October 2007 Whirl-Y-Gig night. 'Whirly' is a billed as "Probably the most visionary club in the world", and lives up to it's name. Going for 26 years, it's London's longest running club night and has an atmosphere like nothing you've ever experienced before. In a city filled with pretentious bars and clubs, Whirl-Y-Gig is like a beaming ray of light welcoming all ages, all kinds of people to a positive late night experience where having a great time is the priority. A huge amount of work goes into putting on every Whirl-Y-Gig night, and it shows.

Most important of all (for us projectionists!) is the lighting... Whirly is easily one of, if not the biggest single site users of psychedelic lighting effects in the world. With literally masses of Optikinetics projectors throughout the venue including endless Solar 250's, several Solar 575's and a splattering of Club Strobeflowers. Huge amounts of kit don't necessarily make a great light show... but Whirly has a dedicated lighting crew who devote hours of time to setting up the stunning lighting and decor then continually change effects throughout the evening. The result is literally mind blowing.
